A Bunch of Amateurs pull off resounding success
A fantastic three nights performing 'A Bunch of Amateurs' with some amazing feedback. Well deserved, after so much hard work. It was an excellent production; the cast enjoyed it and so did the audiences.
The splendid cast was well supported by an excellent crew. We showed them what a bunch of amateurs can do!
Wonderful performances from all the cast. It was a joy to watch, and the audience loved it; at times, we had them in stitches.
We had a good audience on Thursday, Friday night was a full house, sold out to capacity, and Saturday was nearly full.
Audience comment: "Absolutely loved the play last night. Fantastic production, really well acted, and great costumes of course!"
Delightful Night at the Musicals
April 12 and 13 2024
A Night at the Musicals was a great success - two sold out performance which left the audience buzzing.
Amazing ! Fabulous ! Outstanding ! Are you really just amateurs? Just some of the comments from the audience. Fabulous cast and crew as always. The cast rose to the occasion, with glitz, glamour and great verve.
Songs ranged from ballads and punchy ensemble numbers to comedy and cynicism about love and marriage.
A musical trio provided invaluable support to the singers.
The first night audience gave us a standing ovation, and the show was a joyful experience for cast and spectators alike.
Looking forward to our next show
Our spring production is 'A Night at the Musicals' a musical journey, exploring love, friendship and laughter.
The chosen songs dive deep into one of the biggest emotions of them all, set to the rhythm of enchanting melodies. Every love story starts with a sense of optimism, but sometimes love is just an illusion. Relationships are often far from idyllic – and some song writers take a tongue in cheek look at the tedium of love.
Before the show, spectators will enjoy a supper at their tables. Drinks are available from the bar. Then you can sit back and enjoy a rollercoaster of unexpected twists and turns, as we unveil the many facets of love and friendship.
Great entertainment for anyone who loves the musicals.
April 12 and 13 2024, 7:30pm, in Woolpit Village Hall, Mill Lane, Woolpit IP30 9QX.
Doors open 7pm for supper at 7.30pm. Performance starts at 8.30pm

The Happiest Days of Your Life
22, 23, 24 November 2018
Our Autumn 2018 show will be the classic farce “The Happiest Days Of Your Life”, to be directed by Paul Gort. This is a very funny farce, about a girls school being evacuated to a boys school in 1948.
Comedy Tonight
12, 13, 14 April 2018
Our most recent production was a musical revue, entitled Comedy Tonight. Audiences loved it, thoroughly enjoyed the show judging by the comments I heard as they went out. Email comments included:
“We are still laughing. Thank you for a wonderful evening. You have some excellent voices amongst your members and they had worked so hard at the dancing. The sketches were fantastic! How observant you are of us mere mortals and what a great sense of humour to be able to make us laugh at ourselves. Superb!”
“What a super production, it was slick, 😂 and clever.”
“Thanks to all the performers for participating and making such a fun show.”
Autumn 2018 production
Agnes of God, November 23, 24, 25 2017
Our most recent production was Agnes of God, by American playwright John Pielmeier. Woolpit Drama Club was given special permission to bring this powerful and electrifying drama to audiences in Suffolk, in advance of new Broadway and West End productions next year.
The play won two Tony awards when it was first produced on Broadway in 1979.
This challenging play about a novice nun, Sister Agnes, who gives birth but insists that the child was the result of a virgin conception, was brought to life with superb performances by three actresses, Paquita Savill (Agnes), Caroline Brooks (the court-appointed psychiatrist Dr Martha Livingstone) and Val Mayhew (Mother Superior, Mother Miriam Ruth)
Staying the Course, March 16, 17, 18 2017:
Our spring production, “Staying the Course”, was a great success. This was a world premiere for this innocently saucy comedy about marriage by local playwright and club member Richard Stainer, who also directed the play. Gallery of rehearsal photos below.
The Shakespeare Revue
The Shakespeare Revue was a great success. The four performers, Paul Gort, Paquita Savill, Rachel Sumerling and Gareth Hatton and Musical Director Christopher Moore delighted their audiences with sparkling comic performances!
One person commented: "When you have a happy team it pays off - and it did last night - brilliantly!" Another said: "Congratulations to all the actors, they were very good, spot on timing. Must have taken many hours of rehearsals."
Michelle Lavender perfected the movement and dance which added a gloss to the slick performance. And, of course, director David Cordon deserves a pat on the back for bringing it all together. Another Woolpit triumph!
Aladdin - pantomime 2015
The pantomime has now been “put to bed” scenery put back in store, props in the props cupboard and costumes returned. One audience member said:
[Aladdin] was great and we really enjoyed it; a first class performance from very professional amateurs … a big thank you for the brilliant entertainment.
Club ‘Outreach’
